What is more effective, a diy pond filter or one you buy at the store?

I just built a 750 gallon pond and I am on a tight budget. As many people know a good filter is usually about 0+ but I don’t have that kind of money to spend. I found online a do it yourself filter on youtube. I wanted to know which would you think would be more effective. Here are my two choices, a DIY filter made out of a Rubbermaid container or this store bought one for 0 for a 1,000 gallon pond. My goal is to get one that needs minimal cleaning and keeps the water clear. I provided two links, one of ebay and one of youtube.com. If you don’t want to use the youtube link just go on youtube and type "diy pond filter". For ebay type "pressurized filter 1000" and it should be the first one on e-bay.

house GE water filter leaks?

I have a GE filter I installed on my house cold water line. It was fine until I installed a filter that didn’t really fit & I think it let sediment get up into the pressure valve. Now I have put in the correct filter but water leaks out of the pressure valve unless I have it on bypass. I don’t know what to do – maybe replace the whole unit with a new one? GE 800 number is useless.
